Criminal Investigations

The Criminal Investigations Division or CID is comprised of a sergeant and three (3) detectives and their main function is to investigate all types of crimes. Our detectives are cross-trained to handle cases ranging from petty offenses to homicides. They are subject to on-call 24-hours a day, 7 days a week.

Our detectives conduct investigations from the initial crime scene to later testifying in court. The Criminal Investigations Division also follows-up on cases initiated by patrol deputies into crimes that occur in unincorporated areas of Santa Cruz County. The division stores and analyzes evidence, investigates gang-related activity, and assists other law enforcement agencies as needed.

The detectives are also responsible for sex offender registration and notification, are certified as computer voice stress analyzers, and conduct both pre-employment and internal investigations for the department.
